Positive Reinforcement
I had a first time client today. I love Sundays for first clients because I usually have nothing else going on and can dedicate a little bit more time if need be to that person.
This client was referred from a medical professional, and had some issues with upper back pain and low back pain. The most common complaint I see these days.
This particular client was really searching for a very deep tissue massage. Knowing me, I know I can do deep work, however not every one's idea of 'deep' is the same. This is something I really try to make sure is clear at the beginning of the massage. I also make clear that when doing deeper work I will ask more often "hows the pressure?" This is to ensure that we are both on the same page of 'deep tissue' work. I proceeded to do the best that I could- which I do each and every time I have a client. I even decided to do some sliding cupping which is rare for me to do with first clients. however, this client took to it very well.
Everything went the same as usual- and when speaking with the client at the end. He said, " I've had a lot of massages in my time, and this has been one of the greatest if not the best massage I have ever had."
Comments like these make me ... work harder, be more devoted to researching alternative medicine for these clients... I cant even explain how great comments like these feel. I may hear them every now and then but still its the best compliment you can ever give a massage therapist.
I even asked this client if they could possibly call the medical professional and tell them how they felt the massage went, because word travels very quickly by mouth.
So thanks to all those clients that have given me a chance to show what I can do and what I am capable of. I thank you for all those wonderful comments. If I could exchange all of them for all the gold in the world- I would not. I would choose to have those comments instead.
